I want to start by saying I used these in conjunction with staples to hang up my Christmas lights. That being said, I didn’t staple everywhere, there were just some areas on my trim where the wood wasn’t down far enough for the clips to hook properly and they kept sliding down so I had to staple. Some areas had no staples for probably 20 feet or so, and those areas had these clips. They were very easy to use, I hung up the lights by myself with only a little help from my husband on an area that I couldn’t reach. They’re very easy to use. We’ve had many very windy days lately, and the lights haven’t even budged. Now as I said, I did use staples and I’m sure that helped with the security a bit, but in the areas where there weren’t any staples, the clips held up perfectly in the wind. I haven’t even had to adjust them. If you can get away without using staples then I trust that these would hold up, and that would make for a much easier time removing and storing your lights if you don’t have to worry about staples. My trim is about an inch thick around my house and they fit snuggly. They were a little tight to get on, but once on the sort of clicked in place and stayed put. I could still move them around to tighten the grip, but they gripped nicely. I would recommend them for an easier time hanging and removing lights from your house.
