Due to my general fascination with water, I’ve owned a few of these tabletop fountain over the years. After operating this one for about a week, I can honestly say it’s among the best. Now here’s the good and the bad:1. Ease of setup – Average. Not good or bad. Connecting wires and hoses, then filling the fountain with water – much the same as all of the other fountains I’ve owned.2. Splashing. After a week of operation, there is no observable splashing. This is honestly the first fountain I’ve owned that has no significant water loss due to splashing. They’ve done a good job of porting the pools in a way to reduce or eliminate splashing in my opinion.3. Lighting. Not super bright, nor too dim. The lights dance off the ceiling in the dark and provide a warm ambience that I enjoy. I believe they did a good job of lighting this fountain as I’ve seen others that were horribly bright. There isn’t any adjustment, but you can always cover a portion of the LED bulbs in water resistant hobby paint to dim the lighting effect to your taste.3. Pump noise. As I mentioned, I’ve owned a few of these, and Ive owned many aquariums, so I have a pretty good handle on how these small pumps work, and how to noise-isolate them. Make sure the pump is standing on its rubber feet in the bowl, and place the bowl on a towl to cushion the bowl. Ensure the pump is always completely submerged. Setting the switch for minimum water flow does not significantly slow the pump’s internal operating speed. It only restricts the water flow. If you generally prefer quieter pump and water noise, purchase a pump with 40gph or less, and it should make a huge difference. Experiment with the fountain’s location. Standing the fountain in a corner will tend to amplify the sound like a megaphone. There are techniques to reduce noise inside these pumps, but honestly, there are many compatible small pumps on Amazon selling for less than $10, and some that are designed to reduce pump noise. You don’t need the aggravation, or the inherent hazard of working with electrical motors intended to be submerged in water, so just purchase a new one when the pump becomes too noisy. To me, the included pump is about average, noise-wise.4. Water Noise. Most of the water sound in this fountain comes from the basin (bowl). Keep the water levels high inside the bowl if you want to quiet the sound. I personally like the sound. Generally speaking, fountains with fewer cascading levels and reduced height are quieter, but you can also add a few small pebbles or even a tiny piece of sponge in each pool to reduce the water noise. In summary, this is a great fountain and I’m so far very pleased!
